Colored Pencil on Paper; 17 in. by 14 in.
A photo-realistic chair holding just concepts—translucent, light- filled boxes unsupported in space. With this anti-subject, the spotlight is literally on the technical demonstration of color, stroke, shape, and perspective. For example, the backdrop is defined by multiple textures: The graininess of the floor, the stucco-like patchiness of the back wall, and the rustiness of the chair. As this texture is overlain by translucent, colored boxes, special attention is given to color mixing and shadows (different on each side of each box) to give a sense of transparency that makes both background and foreground objects convincing.
